Martin and Barb Fall 2012
Van Guilder's Goldsmith is located in the heart of downtown Edina's 50th and France neighborhood. Van Guilder's was founded in 1984 at Riverplace in Minneapolis and later moved to its current location in 1991. Martin, who emmigrated to the US from the Netherlands, previously owned Martin's Jewelry and did work for retail jewelers around the state of Minnesota. As a master goldsmith, Martin quickly gained recognition for his skill and craftsmanship in design and jewelry repair. Barbara, his wife, joined him as the buyer and sales woman and later his daughter, Lisa, graduated from the Gemological Institution of America (GIA) and also joined the business. In 2013 Martin passed away. Today his wife and daughter continue the excellent service and standards he started so many years ago.

I am the current owner at Van Guilder's Goldsmith and have been working in the jewelry industry for over 35 years. I enjoy being part of the happy events we help our customers celebrate and create. I feel our jewelry shop is unique because of our convenient location, our friendly and personable staff, and our small town feel. Some things I enjoy, outside of running a small business, include keeping up with my grandchildren, gardening and spending time outside, and travel. Stop in and say Hi!
I was born and raised in the jewelry business. I took jewelry classes at the same school my dad attended years ago in the Netherlands. I attended two years at Minneapolis Community and Tech College (MCTC), excelling at jewelry repair and service. From there I went on to the Gemologist Institute of America (GIA) to become a graduate Gemologist. I have been working full-time at Van Guilder’s Goldsmith since 2003.
I work on site at Van Guilders where I cover special order design, wax model carving and all manner of jewelry repair. I was born in Germany, emigrated to the United States and grew up in Minnesota where I graduated from the MAVTI jewelry program in Minneapolis, MN in 1976. I have more than 40 years experience as a goldsmith, including 21 years as a jewelry instructor at Minneapolis Community and Tech College (MCTC). I began working as a goldsmith in 1975 and had worked alongside Martin since 1976. I am also the owner of Renaissance Jewelers, a wholesale and trade jewelry company, established in 1991. Beyond jewelry, which is a passion, music, art and traveling are all part of a wonderful life.
I have over 30 years of experience and come to Van Guilder's with a love and passion for this industry as big as my appetite for food! My background in fine arts has given me an advantage for color and design, whether someone is looking for something classical, contemporary, or edgy, I know my stuff!
